Black Women’s Lives Matter exhibit closing reception
We wrapped up Gloria Swain’s exhibit, Black Women’s Lives Matter, with a closing reception and artist talk on violence against Black women last week. Together, we watched footage of her live performance, Rememory, from which the photography for the exhibit was taken. The conversations that came up touched upon the intersecting and particular ways Black women and trans folks struggle and survive the legacies of slavery and the ongoing colonial violence in the US and Canada. Gloria’s exhibit and our community conversation truly highlighted the urgent need to recognize how systemic racism and misogyny produces and benefits from intergenerational trauma. We can’t wait to see what Gloria will be offering us next. Stay updated on Gloria’s upcoming work and exhibits here!
