RRANS Rebrand
Client
Year
The Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia (RRANS) is a grassroots, community organization that advocates with, supports, and privately sponsors LGBTQI+ refugees seeking a safe home and community in Nova Scotia.
Guiding these core activities is RRANS’ ongoing commitment to centre, uplift and be continually shaped by the voices and experiences of LGBTQI+ newcomers, and to cultivate and nourish safe, inclusive and joyful communities that provide LGBTQI+ newcomers with what they need to grow and thrive.
The Need
The Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia approached us to engage in a rebranding process. Our goals were to:
- support RRANS in developing a cohesive identity and brand story; and
- capture the grassroots, responsive, and relational approach of the organization through their visual branding.
The Idea
“With better soil and a place to root, we can find new versions of ourselves”
This approach is inspired by an insight from a member of RRANS during our visioning sessions, comparing people to plants, “with better soil and a place to root, we can find new versions of ourselves.” With this concept, we see an individual represented through a reaching root system; it’s from this system, and its soil, that they thrive and grow. As a nod to the name, and to hint at the idea of possibility and wonder, we see the circle complete with a rainbow.
Key questions:
- what does it mean to tend to the unique and ever-evolving needs of LGBTQI+ newcomers?
- what impact is seen/experienced/felt? what parts of the work are invisible/hidden/necessary?
- what possibilities can grow from strong, loving, and networked communities?
The Work
The final work includes the redesigned logo suite, brand standards guidelines, and internal collateral design (email signatures and letterhead).
