Call-out for guest facilitators | Digital story-telling workshop:

We are running a digital storytelling curriculum online for youth labour organizers. We have a 10 week curriculum worked out and are looking for guest facilitators to deliver a workshop on one of the following topics:

  • Photo documentary (eg. how to put together a photo essay)
  • Podcasting (eg. how to tell an audio story)
  • Smartphone documentary filmmaking (eg. how to put together a short documentary video)

The workshop would be 3 hours long (10am-1pm EST on Wednesday July 5th), facilitated online. By this time, the cohort will have decided on an organizing story that they want to tell, and would have chosen one of the media above. The workshop would need to cover the following

  • An introduction (to you and your practice)
  • Some examples of compelling stories told through photo journalism/audio/video
  • Medium-specific considerations (eg. how to think about your story through this lens, how to map out your project, what you’ll need, making a project plan, and immediate next steps)
  • Medium-specific principles (eg. framing, sound, shots, b-roll, etc.)
  • A short hands-on exercise
  • Technical overview and resources (hand-out/list of links, etc.)
  • Homework: mapping a project plan

It’s a lot to cover in three hours! We are also inviting facilitators back to a critique session (90min) on Wedneday July 10th, 10am-11:30EST and to a final celebration and presentation of work on Wednesday August 14th, 10am-11:30EST (this is optional)

Honorarium is $1,000 CAD

If you are interested in facilitating, please send a short statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) expressing your interest (specifying your chosen medium), confirming your availability as per the dates above, describing your practice (including links to any work online), facilitation experience and any pedagogical frameworks that you might draw on in community settings. We are looking for folks who are knowledgable in their chosen medium, and skilled at fostering creative spaces that meet folks where they’re at. Please email sheila@thepublicstudio.ca on or before next Wednesday May 17th.

Please feel free to sent via email to anyone you think might be a good fit!

Three people work on an arts and crafts project on a table, with various supplies scattered around, including markers, magazines, and a book binding press. Their hands are engaged with the materials, and some colorful artwork is visible on the table.

How do you want to change the world and how can we help?
